Bisogna fare sacrifici per essere salvi? Riscoprire oggi il primato della grazia

Abstract

Se Dio ci salva gratis, noi dobbiamo ancora fare qualcosa? È necessario fare dei sacrifici per ottenere la salvezza? A prima vista sembra esserci un’alternativa tra il primato della grazia e la necessità di prestazioni da parte nostra che possano garantirci l’ingresso nella salvezza. Questa apparente alternativa ha portato alcuni filoni della teologia recente a contestare la categoria del sacrificio.
Attraverso un viaggio che tocca la cristologia della Lettera agli Ebrei, le posizioni di Tommaso d’Aquino e di Martin Lutero sul sacrificio e la riparazione al Sacro Cuore proposta da papa Francesco nell’enciclica Dilexit nos, l’articolo sostiene che è necessario continuare a usare il linguaggio del sacrificio, intendendo con questo termine l’imitazione eucaristica dell’autodonazione di Cristo che ha offerto la sua vita per noi in risposta all’autodonazione del Padre.

If God saves us for free, do we still have to do something? Is it necessary to make sacrifices to obtain salvation? At first glance, there seems to be an alternative between the primacy of grace and the need for performances on our part that can guarantee our entry into salvation. This apparent alternative has led some currents of recent theology to contest the category of sacrifice. Through a journey that touches on the Christology of the Letter to the Hebrews, the positions of Thomas Aquinas and Martin Luther on sacrifice and reparation to the Sacred Heart proposed by Pope Francis in the encyclical Dilexit nos, the article argues that it is necessary to continue using the language of sacrifice, meaning with this term the Eucharistic imitation of the self-offering of Christ who offered his life for us in response to the self-offering of the Father.
