Abstract

Sommario

Summary – Signes of the places. The monastic experience of the dwelled space, as a grammar for the human being

The organisation of spaces within a monastery has represented since antiquity and still represents a microcosm, in which architectural, anthropological, spiritual, theological and ecclesiological meanings are stratified. By present-ing the main communal places of monastic life, the article aims to suggest how Christianity brings with it a spiritual wisdom and a human practice of in-habiting life and living in places, which allow us to experience man and God. The architecture of monastic spaces can thus offer a grammar of the human being, which remains eloquent even outside the cloistered walls.
