Al pari di molta altra letteratura biblica, anche il Pentateuco, nel delineare i tratti costitutivi dell’identità del Dio di Israele e le caratteristiche della sua azione nei confronti del popolo e dell’intero creato, presenta molteplici metafore, tipiche del linguaggio religioso. Il saggio offre una panoramica tendenzialmente esaustiva delle molteplici metafore concernenti il Dio di Israele presenti nei primi cinque libri biblici, invitando a un’adeguata attenzione a loro riguardo e ad una loro consapevole ermeneutica. L’auspicio è che la recente
attenzione esegetica allo studio delle metafore bibliche non si limiti ai soli testi poetici.

Summary - Not only in poetic texts: the biblical metaphors concerning the
God of Israel in the Pentateuch
As a great part of other biblical literature, the Pentateuch, in outlining the constitutive traits of the God of Israel’s identity and the characteristics of his action toward his people and all of creation, presents multiple metaphors, typical of religious language. This essay offers a comprehensive overview of the many metaphors concerning the God of Israel found in the first five books of the Bible, encouraging appropriate attention to them and a thoughtful interpretation of them. It is hoped that recent exegetical attention to the study of biblical metaphors will not be limited to poetic texts alone.
