Abstract

Sommario

Summary - Within the everyday the trace of the other. Michel de Certeau and the anthropology of believing

Michel de Certeau (1925-1986) is a wandering author, a traveller – as he defines himself – seeking that fabric of otherness which weaves both history and, ultimately, life. From his deep study of mysticism, the true organon of his thought, he turns to the theme of everyday life, which in this article is examined up to the elaboration of an anthropology of believing – an anticipation of reflections later taken up in contemporary theology. Every day, every received communication is reworked through tactics that reveal creativity, fractures, and new relationships, and it emerges as a practice of marginality and difference that prevails over the dominant system – an open space of loss
that is, at the same time, a new beginning. So, it is with believing, a practice of difference inhabiting reality, the surprise of a fracture, of truth, which inaugurates the new – the necessary – relation to the Other. Christianity is relation to the event of Jesus, but it is also the experience of a lack and of an expectation, a desire – Jesus is no longer here and is the absent-present – that makes the newness of relation possible. A relation to the origin and chances for the future, everyday as in faith, open the way for new forms of communion.
